Poetry Hub at Bournemouth Writing Festival 2024

The Avenue, Bournemouth

Saturday 27th April 2024

poetry activities from 10am-5pm

Poetry activities for all ages and abilities. Drop-in activities inspiring wordplay and expression through poetry. Have your creative spark activated by our experienced facilitators!

10-5pm: contribute to Bournemouth's Community Landscape Poem by submitting lines in advance to Estelle Phillips via instagram @estelle_writer44 or email estelleathalterworth@yahoo.co.uk or in person - as Estelle will be at the Poetry Hub all day.

10:30-12pm: Aiysha Jahan (Write Beyond Borders) explores Pakistani Truck Art - it is not just about bold colours and images - words feature prominently on Pakistan's jingle trucks too! Praise, aphorisms, prayers and poetry. Read some examples and add your own to our truck art wall.

1-2:30pm: Make waves with your writing, with Yasmin Inkersole! Dip your toes into poetry by using collage methods to create your own poems inspired by famous verses about the seaside. In this workshop you will be encouraged to turn poems from celebrated writers into new verses that channel your own voice - so there’s no need to worry about starting from a blank page.

3:30-5pm: Join Kaycee Hill (Bloodaxe Books) to explore Bournemouth's stunning landscapes - from its beaches and sea to parks and gardens - through poetry and collage, culminating in a group poem that reflects the community's connection to these natural spaces.

Bournemouth Writing Festival is a three day, city-wide, literary festival inspiring writers to write.

Poetry Hub activities are free to attend, suitable for all ages, and open to all.
